Certifications are directly linked to transparency, a trait that consumers are more aggressively seeking in the products they use: they want to know that they can trace the source of the ingredients in the products they use, and that those ingredients were handled safely, hygienically and with respect to the original resources (the earth and the people who cultivated and wild-harvested the herbs).

According to market research from Leverett, MA-based Pure Branding Inc., 73% of shoppers said they are more likely to pay higher prices for supplements and functional beverages they believe provide transparency. In their report, which also queried brands, several asserted that enjoyed an approximate 20% return on transparency-related endeavors, such as certifications.
