Cistanche
deserticola is an
annual parasitic plant native to North America and east Asia, it is grown
on sandy soils in USA and northwest China. It is dug in spring when its
seedling still does not or just comes up out of the earth. Following
removal of the inflorescence, it is cut into segments and dried in the
sun, which is termed as "sweet cistanche." Those collected in
autumn are soaked in salt water, and termed as "salty cistanche";
after getting rid of salt,they are sliced, dried in the sun or steamed
with water and wine and dried in air.
Cistanche
stem is a rejuvenating kidney tonic, helping to support and enhance
function of the kidneys. It is useful when kidney function is weak (as in
cases of water retention) or in cases where the function of the kidneys is
not balanced by the function of other organs (as in urinary incontinence).
Cistanches are also useful for impotence in men, and result in increased
sexual ability rather than increased sex drive.
Function:
1、Impotence
According to
modern scientific studies, Cistanche exerts testosterone-like action,
promoting sexual desire and ability. Cistanche stimulates sperm production
and seminal fluid secretion, stimulating sexual desire by filling up the
seminal vesicle. Cistanche exerts an overall body strengthening effect.
The herbs act to exhibit gonadotropin-like (hormone-like) effects, without
affecting the healthy balance of testosterone in the body. According to
Traditional Chinese Medicine, as aphrodisiacs, and are indicated for
impotence. Cistanche are also indicated for premature ejaculation.
Cistanche assists the other herbs by helping to adjust the neuro-endocrine
regulation of the male reproductive system, thus keeping a healthy
hormonal balance.
2、Immune
Support
Water-soluble
composition of Cistanche extract have immunity strengthen function
observed in small rats’ liquid and cell, and can increase weight of the
small rat's spleen, thymus gland and can increase the lymphoid cell
conversion rate. Cistanche also shows anti- decrepitude function,
it can make the obvious gain of the activity of red cell's oxide dismutase
of small rats.
3、Constipation
Cistanche is
often used as laxatives to treat constipation due to dryness of the
intestines. This effect has been proved in small rats showing strengthened
intestine movement.
Safety
There are no severe sides effects reported after
taking Cistanche extract. It is also considered “Generally safe for
appropriate consumption” by American
Herbal Products Association (AHPA).
Dosage
A daily dosage
of 200-400 mg Cistanche extract standardized to 16% polyphenols is
recommended to enhance sexual potency.
